St Petersburg Russia – White Nights – Russian Winter CapitalBefore the Russian revolution of 1917 the world knew of St Petersburg Russia as a winter capital. There are other metaphoric names that compare this city to Paris, London, and Venice. It was call a "window to Europe". We call it the city of Faith, Hope and Love. It has many churches, mosque, synagogue etc. After the revolution Moscow became apolitical capital of the Union and St Petersburg became a "city of Revolution". Today the city is searching for it identity again. Most of the summer events are tailored to the visitors. Tourists come to see white nights – one of the magnificent views of the Russian capital of Romance. Many Russian newlywed couples choose to spend their honeymoon in St Petersburg walking alleys and boulevards, parks and embankments, taking boat rides and dining out. The winter events are more plentiful and appeal to cultural aficionados. In the winter the capital of romance is full of students. The winter capital continues to charm new generations of admirers year after year. The temperature in the winter is not as bad as many foreigners believe. It is curious that when one talks of Sweden it’s about blondes while conversations about Russia draws association with a cold winter. And Sweden is further north than Russia!
